Keep it green all season!

Spring is the time to prepare your lawn for the summer growing season. The first thing you should do is to de-thatch &/or aerate your lawn. If you use a 4-step Lawn program now is the time (March-April) to apply the first step. Make sure that you have done all your raking prior to putting down Step1 because the crabgrass preventer creates a vapor barrier that should not be disturbed. If you plan to start grass seed before fall and want to use a 4-Step program you need to puchase Step 1 for seeding we carry it from Scotts. It is also time to put down grub control. Grubs are the pupil stage of the Japanese Beetle and cause dammage to the root system of your lawn.

In May-June it is time to apply Step 2 (weed & feed). This step needs to be applied when you start to see weeds actively growing in the lawn. You need to apply this step to a wet lawn so that the herbacide in the product will stick to the leaves of the weeds you want to kill.

In July-August it is time to apply Step 3 Insect Control. Many times the importance of this step can be over looked which can have a costly effect on the lawn. Often the insects that cause dammage to the lawn are not even seen by the home owner. Depending on the kind of insect control you choose to use, this step may or may not have fertilizer included. This is also the time of year that many people start to have problems with lawn fungus. Lawn fungus can be brought on by a variety scenarios, one of them is too much water, another not properly cleaning the lawn mower, and so on. If you are having problems with browning circles in the lawn fungus may be the culprit. We carry a variety of products that prevent & cure these lawn diseases.

Last but not least, in September-October it is time to apply a Step 4 Fall fertilizer or winterizer. This step gives the lawn the proper nutients it needs to survive the long winter and gives it a head start for the next season.
